Malvern man killed in single vehicle wreck at Crystal Springs

A Malvern man was killed in a one-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon on Highway 270 west of Hot Springs near Crystal Springs, according to an Arkansas Department of Public Safety preliminary fatality report.

James M. Thompson, 90, of Malvern, driving a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck, pulling a camper, was reportedly westbound on Highway 270 approaching Crystal Springs Road when he lost control around 3:30 p.m. and his vehicle went off the north side of the roadway into a ditch.

Thompson then drove back onto the roadway, crossed over the westbound lane into the eastbound lane, left the roadway again on the south side, drove into a ditch and struck a tree.

Thompson was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene by Garland County Deputy Coroner Jayson Neighbors.

Conditions were reportedly clear and dry at the time of the wreck which was investigated by Arkansas State Police.
