OBI offering eclipse shirts to blood donors

Our Blood Institute is offering an exclusive "Donor Eclipse World Tour" T-shirt through next Monday to successful blood donors to celebrate this year's celestial event. The shirt features a special "solar ink" that changes color in the sun.

Donors will also receive a "Stand Tall and Donate" giraffe-themed T-shirt, a news release said. "Our donors light the way for others by giving blood to those in need."

"Our donors are the true shining stars of our community, bringing light to those in need," Dr. John Armitage, OBI president and CEO, said in the release. "We wanted to express our sincere thanks by offering not one but two T-shirts for a limited time as an appreciation for their lifesaving contributions."

"Every two seconds, someone needs blood, and the supply must be constantly renewed. It takes approximately 1,200 donors a day to meet those needs," the release said.

Anyone who is healthy and 16 or older can give blood. Appointments to donate can be made online at obi.org or by calling 877-340-8777. Walk-ins are also welcome at the local center at 149 Section Line Road, Suite G.
