Lake Hamilton Fire and Rescue open house set for Saturday

Lake Hamilton Fire and Rescue Department will host an open house and fall festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Station No. 2, 1111 Highway 290.

"We will have several demonstrations, including how we use our new 105-foot platform truck, a vehicle extrication and fire hose demos for the kids. Kids will also be able to watch a fireman transform from his uniform to wearing all of his protective clothing in under two minutes. This will show the kids what a fireman looks like in full gear and for them to not be afraid if they are in a house fire and see the fireman coming toward them," Deputy Chief Doug Davey said.

Fire department members will also hand out fire safety information about how to keep family members and homes safe in the event of a fire or other emergencies.

"People will also be able to sit down with our firemen and discuss specific fire safety issues," Davey said.

Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be served for lunch, and entertainment will be provided by two bands. To start the festival, the Cook Mountain Bluegrass Band will play at 10 a.m., followed at noon by Now and Then, a classic country band, Davey said.

Along with the ladder truck, visitors will be able to view other fire department vehicles and equipment, including the brush truck and the tanker truck that was recently returned after modifications by personnel at the Tucker Unit of the Arkansas Department of Correction.

"Kids will have a chance to take hold of a fire hose under pressure and shoot water at beach balls and other objects to feel what it is like. We may have some future firefighters among the crowd. Come meet your firefighters and have a great day with us. We look forward to seeing everyone," Davey said.
