BISMARCK -- Nearly 30 runners have signed up for Saturday's 5K run as part of the community's annual Bar-B-Que Bash, which will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the downtown area.

The bash will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with music by the Cooper Road Band. On Saturday, the 5K run will start at 8 a.m. Final registration will start at 7:30 a.m.

"I'm expecting close to 30 runners, and that's about the number we had last year. We will have men and women categories as well as age divisions and will present medals to the winners," said Mike Spraggins, run coordinator.

The parade, which will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, has 30 entries. Susan Stewart, who is in charge of parade registrations, said the entries include floats, fire trucks, bands and antique cars and trucks.

Arts and crafts booths will be open during the bash. There will be a new barbecue contest this year, said Lavonda Leonard, chairman of the Bismarck Business Association, which is hosting the bash along with other sponsors.

The barbecue chicken will be judged at 1 p.m., pork ribs at 2 p.m., and brisket at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds from the bash will benefit the BBA's scholarship fund, which will award scholarships to seniors in the Bismarck Class of 2015.

The car show will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the post office parking lot, and prizes will be awarded in various categories.

Bingo will also be available for visitors from 1-5 p.m. Saturday.

Entertainment will include Ashley Blanton, at 11:30 a.m.; Sensory 2 at noon; Blues in the School Kids at 2 p.m.; Kennedy Elizabeth at 3 p.m.; The Gable Bradley Band at 5 p.m.; and the Friday Night Tin Rattlers at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The bash will conclude with music by the Bismarck Gospel Tones from 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Bismarck Bar-B-Que Bash T-shirts will also be for sale.

"Get your T-shirts and show your support for our seniors through our scholarship fund," Leonard said.
