Ad panel deadlocks on appointment

The Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission deadlocked on a replacement for position six Commissioner Diana Bratton during its monthly meeting on Monday.

Only six of the seven commissioners were present, with Commissioner Karen Garcia unable to attend. The commission received two applications for the position, one from Michael Pettey, owner of The Ohio Club, and another from Tom Daniel, former commissioner and city director and owner of "three souvenir and gift stores" per his application.

Position six is for anyone who is a qualified elector in the city of Hot Springs and the owner or manager of a hotel, restaurant or tourism related business. Positions on the ad commission are four-year terms, unpaid and voluntary.

According to Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison, the commission deadlocked, with a vote of three to three. Votes for Pettey came from Bob Martorana, Charlie Moore and David Longinotti, while Bratton, Elaine Jones and Larry DeWitt voted for Pettey.

"Since a decision wasn't made, the vote has been moved to the next meeting," Arrison said. "All seven commissioners should be at that meeting; however, if we only have six and there's a three-to-three vote again, we will have to decide during that meeting or else the commission will be voting forever."

Bratton, whose term ended in August, will continue to serve in her position until the next meeting when a decision is made. She served as part of the finance committee and the commission voted for Martorana to take that position.
