Byron Rhodes announces his retirement

After almost 40 years of practicing law in, among others, the U.S. Navy, Hawaii, Virginia and Arkansas, local attorney Byron Cole Rhodes, on June 30, 2016, announced his retirement.

Rhodes is a former Navy JAG (Judge Advocate General) and retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander. During his service to his country, Rhodes was awarded, among other honors, the U.S. Navy Commendation Medal; U.S. Navy Achievement Medal; Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet Citation for Meritorious Service; National Defense Service Medal (Iraq-Kuwait War-Desert Shield and Desert Storm); U.S. Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon; U.S. Armed Forces Joint Meritorious Unit Award; Commander, Naval Reserve Intelligence Commendation for Exceptional Professional Achievement; and American Bar Association's U.S. Armed Forces Outstanding Legal Assistance Award. He served with NCIS (Navy Criminal Investigative and Counter-Intelligence Service). Rhodes was commended for, among his other duties, "making a most significant contribution to the defense of his country and to the readiness of the Navy."

Rhodes is founder and president of the nonprofit organization Byron Cole Rhodes Family Foundation, which was created by the Byron Cole Rhodes family to "assist worthy civic and charitable endeavors in Hot Springs and Garland County." The Byron Cole Rhodes Family Foundation's motto is: "Hope For Tomorrow -- Action Today!"

Rhodes, along with the Byron Cole Rhodes Family Foundation, has received awards and commendations over the years for service to the citizens of Hot Springs and Garland County. Among them are the Mayor's Proclamation for "numerous and varied" "philanthropic deeds" and being a "continued supporter of a myriad of projects that benefit the city of Hot Springs;" as well as the City of Hot Springs Certificate "In Recognition of Distinguished Service to the City."
