Three-county Electronic Waste Recycling Event planned

Schools, businesses, public facilities and residents in Clark, Garland and Hot Spring counties can make plans now to participate in a free regional Electronic Waste Recycling Event from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 12 and 13, at three different locations.

Garland County residents can drive in, drive through and drive out of the Church Street entrance at the rear of the Hot Springs Convention Center to drop off electronics for recycling. Items accepted include cellphones, televisions, large and small computer equipment, MP3 players, video game players, communication systems, copiers, printers and plotters, audiovisual equipment, fax machines, medical equipment, microfiche readers, modems, cameras, calculators, tape drives, and test equipment.

Hot Spring County residents can bring electronics to the Hot Spring County Solid Waste Authority, 1904 E. Page Avenue in Malvern. Clark County residents can bring their electronics to the Clark County Fairgrounds, 1501 Highway 67 south in Arkadelphia, which will close at noon on Saturday.

"This event is designed to handle large volumes of recyclable electronics that may currently be occupying valuable storage space waiting to be discarded," said Randy Atkinson, solid waste director and event chair. "Additionally, it prevents these items from going to the landfill."

Residents can also bring smaller quantities to the event, which is sponsored by the Southwest Central Regional Solid Waste Management District in cooperation with the Hot Springs Solid Waste Department.
