'Flypaper' entertains

Dear editor:

There are many helpful, community-minded organizations in Hot Springs and one of my favorites is The Sentinel-Record. I start my day by reading The Sentinel-Record, yes, the hard copy. I'm a hands-on kind of a gal. If readers pay attention, they will discover some educational opportunities offered by this hometown paper, such as the "Flypaper Hot Springs" mentoring on social media at the Garland County Library on Sept. 14 facilitated by Zach Hines and his team. Even if you already use Facebook, there are some clever ways in which to utilize this media to your advantage, which was pointed out by Mr. Hine's hourlong presentation. (Boy this young man can talk!)

I welcomed the opportunity to meet The Sentinel-Record General Manager Harry Porter. I have been enjoying his columns on the Viewpoints page. Scrumptious cookies and bottled water were offered. A drawing for a "Smart" TV was held at the end of the program and "holy cow" I won it. I was speechless, but only for a moment. I am president of the Hot Springs Jazz Society this year and our executive director, Gretchen Taylor, was also in attendance. After thanking Mr. Hines and Mr. Porter, I told Ms. Taylor and the other attendees the TV would be the first item donated for our Mardi Gras Gala 2017 silent auction and that donations would be accepted and appreciated at anytime. Email [email protected] to donate.

The Jazz Society would like to thank the Garland County Library and The Sentinel-Record for hosting this event and for the "Smart" TV. Not only is "Flypaper Hot Springs" informative, the team is also entertaining. (An aside: Zach's grandmother is right. He is cute.)
