Juvenile suspect arrestedin alleged armed robbery

A 16-year-old Hot Springs male was arrested Sunday after allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint during a drug deal, Hot Springs police Cpl. Joey Williams said Monday.

Shortly before 4 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Central Avenue to a robbery and spoke to the alleged male victim, 36, who said he was attempting to buy some drugs from another male when the male pulled out a handgun and robbed him, Williams said.

The male suspect fled the scene, but officers located a suspect, 16, matching his description near Watt and Central and apprehended him after a short foot pursuit. The suspect was charged with aggravated robbery, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with purpose to deliver, and misdemeanor counts of fleeing on foot and theft of property under $1,000.

No one was injured in the incident and the juvenile suspect is being held in the Garland County Juvenile Detention Center. The Sentinel-Record follows The Associated Press privacy guidelines and does not publish the names of juvenile offenders unless they are charged as adults.
