A Bonnerdale man was arrested Sunday night after he reportedly threatened to kill a relative while holding a loaded firearm.

John Bernard Moss, 47, who lists an Airport Road address, was taken into custody in the 100 block of Connelly Road shortly before 7 p.m. and charged with felony counts of terroristic threatening, punishable by up to six years in prison, and possession of a firearm by a certain person, punishable by up to 20 years.

Moss was being held on $7,550 bond and appeared via video Monday in Garland County District Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. Judge Meredith Switzer issued a court order barring Moss from contact with the victim in the case and a felony review hearing is set for Nov. 19.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garland County sheriff's Sgt. Greg Kellar and Deputy Stacy Morgan responded to the 7500 block of Airport Road in reference to a man reportedly threatening someone with a firearm. They learned that Moss had allegedly threatened to kill a relative and was holding a rifle at the time he made this threat.

Moss was not at the scene when Kellar and Morgan arrived, but a neighbor told them he gave Moss a ride to his girlfriend's house on Connelly Road off Airport. Kellar and Moss went to the address provided and made contact with Moss.

Moss reportedly stated he lives in a shed behind the relative's house and did, in fact, have a firearm while he was there. He allegedly told the deputy he had given the firearm to his son after arriving at the residence on Connelly Road.

Moss' girlfriend, 47, reportedly told deputies she did not know about a firearm but was present during the incident with the relative.

She initially stated that Moss did not threaten the relative or have a firearm. She later reportedly said she did not know what happened to the firearm and did not know where he had placed it. The girlfriend was reportedly charged with obstruction of government operations.

Moss reportedly said he knew where the firearm was located and led Morgan to it behind a shed at the residence. The rifle reportedly had one round in the chamber and five in the magazine. Moss was placed into custody and taken to the Garland County Detention Center.
