LH finishes third at 5A South meet

No Garland County school finished above third Friday at the 5A South conference track and field meet at Hot Springs Joe C. Reese Stadium. Texarkana won both the boys and girls meets with Benton and Lake Hamilton finishing second and third in both.

Texarkana tallied 173.5 points in the boys side of the meet with Benton putting up 156.5 and Lake Hamilton 126.5. Lakeside finished fifth with 49 points, and Hot Springs was seventh with 16.

In the girls meet, Texarkana put up 191.5 points, Benton finished with 123 and Lake Hamilton 92. Lakeside was sixth with 70 points, and Hot Springs finished seventh with 10.5.

The Wolves won five events to lead the Garland County contingent and had 20 more finishes in points. The Wolves' 4x400 relay team of Adam Albrecht, William Swecker, Skylar Davis Weldon and Colby Swecker easily won the event, crossing the line in 8:15.09 with second-place Benton crossing in 8:51.03. Lakeside's team of Gideon Drake, William Mims, Caleb Wrublesky and Hunter Dorathy finished fourth in 8:52.82.

The 4x800 team of Cole Whisenhunt, Haze Farmer, Colby Swecker and Weldon (3:31.24) were just over a second ahead of Lakeside's team of Eayn Shelley, Mims, Jesus Damian and Omari Dickens (3:32.53). Hot Springs, consisting of Masceo Martin, Montae'l Williams, Santiair Thomas and Trent Gordon, finished seventh in the event with 3:57.53.

Lake Hamilton's 4x100 team of Jackson Galster, Farmer, Michael Harris and Layne Warrick finished fourth in 43.89 seconds while Lakeside's team of Shelley, Kaimani Gray, Damian and Chance Cross was fifth in 44.97. The Trojans' Martin, Chris Maxie, Latrell Ellis and Devin Hill finished seventh with 46.81 seconds.

Individually, the Wolves were led by William Swecker with a win in the 1,600-meter run in 4:42.48, Zeke McCain in the 3,200-meter run (10:09.73) and Farmer in the pole vault with 16 feet. The Wolves swept the top four spots in the vault with Michael Harris, Hunter Johnson and J.T. Bardwell finishing behind the Georgia commit. Ethan and Noah Smith were second and third, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run with Neal Cole coming in sixth.

The Rams had 11 finishes for points, led individually by Mims' third-place (2:06.62) and Drake's fifth-place finish (2:08.69) in the 800-meter run. Shelley finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with 53.15 seconds, and Wrublesky took fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:32.32.

Deshawn Roberts led the Trojans with a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a six-foot clearance, and Thomas was sixth in the triple jump with 40 feet, 2.5 inches. Zakari Williams was seventh in the 110 (16:56) and 300 hurdles (44:53), and Timothy Joyce's 18 foot, 9.5 inch long jump picked up a point for the Trojans.

Lake Hamilton's girls won three events with 15 other finishes garnering points for the team. Jessica Jennings led the team with a pair of wins in the 3,200-meter run (12:39.74) and as part of the 4x800 relay team. Jennings was joined by Katherine Scalzo, Anacaren Ramos and Meighan Mears in the relay. Lakeside's 4x800 relay team of MaKaila Davis, Madalyn Boyd, Emma Belic and Hope Drake finished third in the event.

The team's other win was by Arkansas commit Edie Murray in the pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet, and Mahayla Swayze came in second with a 10-foot clearance.

Lake Hamilton, Lakeside and Hot Springs took fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively in the 4x100 relay. Lake Hamilton's team consisted of Jenny Peake, Karenton Davis, Baylee Jenkins and Murray; Lakeside was comprised of Janisha Smith, La'Shiya Martin, Bethanie Witherspoon and Maggie Dickerson; and Ashanti Hickman, Tamia Dolls, Nadiya Valrie and Ty'Niah Johnson made up the Lady Trojan team.

Lakeside's team of Jaiden Drake, Dickerson, Alexis Drake and Natalie Jennings finished second in the 4x400 relay with Lake Hamilton's team of Madison Mears, Jenkins, Peake and Maylin Reyes finishing fifth.

Natalie Jennings was Lakeside's only event winner with a time of 2:30.28 in the 800-meter run and 5:49.76 in the 1,600-meter run with Davis coming in fourth in the 800 and second in the 1,600. Davis finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run with Belic taking sixth and Boyd eighth.

Jamie Broadway led the Lady Trojans with a fourth-place finish in the shot with a put of 34 feet, 5.25 inches, and Teiara Gordon leapt 4 feet, 8 inches for a sixth-place finish in the high jump.
