Kinkaid's double-double leads CMS past Glen Rose

MAGNET COVE -- Kara Kinkaid put up 14 points with 14 assists to lead Cutter Morning Star past Glen Rose 36-35 Monday night in the play-in game of the Battle at the Cove tournament at Magnet Cove.

The Lady Eagles (5-1) held on for a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter while holding Glen Rose (0-3) to 6 points a quarter in the second and third to pull out to a 28-23 lead going into the final frame. The Lady Beavers outscored CMS in the final period, but the Lady Eagles held on for the win.

C.J. Burks put up 12 points with 8 rebounds and 2 blocks, and McKenna Knott DeBord added 7 points with 3 rebounds, a steal and an assist. Grace Slick led the team with 6 assists and 4 steals while pulling down 5 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles will play Centerpoint today at 4 p.m. in the tournament while Glen Rose will face Mountain Pine Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

JUNIOR BOYS

Lake Hamilton 58, Cabot South 45

CABOT -- Ty Robinson put up 28 points to lead the junior Wolves (4-0) past the junior Panthers Monday.

Cabot South held with Lake Hamilton in the first quarter, but the junior Wolves doubled their first-quarter points while allowing 10 to take a 32-25 halftime lead. The junior Wolves added 13 in the third while allowing 10 before outscoring the junior Panthers 13-10 in the fourth to secure the win.

K.J. McDaniel added 19 points, Zac Pennington had 4, Cooper Kindt 3 and Kendrick Martin and Easton Hurley 2 each.

Lake Hamilton will travel to Benton on Thursday.

Lakeside 62, Hope 26

Lakeside (3-1) had four in double-digit scoring as the junior Rams blew past the visiting Bobkittens Monday.

Lakeside stretched its 15-4 first-quarter lead out to 32-15 at the half before outscoring Hope 30-11 in the second half.

Tyler Frederick led the junior Rams with 19 points, Braylen Russell had 13, and A.J. Howard and Charter Harris added 10 each.

Lakeside will host Greenbrier on Thursday.

Fountain Lake 26, Arkadelphia 21

ARKADELPHIA -- Fountain Lake (4-0) held Arkadelphia (3-1) to just 2 points in the opening quarter en route to Monday's win.

The junior Badgers pulled within 15-11 at the break, but the junior Cobras held on for the win, outscoring the home team 11-10 in the second half.

Fountain Lake will host Malvern Thursday.

JUNIOR GIRLS

Fountain Lake 28, Arkadelphia 26

ARKADELPHIA -- Kara Martin hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining and Kamryn Whiley sank a bucket with 8.5 left on the clock to push the junior Lady Cobras (4-0) past Arkadelphia Monday.

After a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, Fountain Lake could not stop Arkadelphia from jumping out to a 12-9 halftime lead. The junior Lady Badgers stretched their lead out to 17-11 before the junior Lady Cobras came from behind to win.

Martin led the team with 16 points, and Emileigh Welch had 8.

Fountain Lake will travel to Malvern Thursday.

NCAA WOMEN

Henderson State 84, Midwestern State 73

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Hailey Estes picked up her third double-double in the past four games as the Reddies (6-1, 2-0 Great American Conference) held on for their fifth-straight win.

Four Reddies finished in double-digits with Estes leading the team with 24 and 12 rebounds. Karrington Whaley had 16 points and 9 rebounds, leaving her just short of her third double-double of the season, and Lani Snowden was 3 for 4 from 3-point range for 13 points. Maci Mains finished with 11 points off the bench and a season-high 8 assists while Lexis Weber filled the stat sheet with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in just 19 minutes on the court.

MSU pushed out to an early 6-2 lead before Estes hit three from behind the arc to kickstart a 15-5 run to put the Reddies up 17-11 before holding on for a 23-17 lead at the end of the period. The Reddies hit a 5-0 run to push out to a 36-25 lead before HSU took a 44-34 lead into the break.

The Mustangs cut the Reddies' lead to 44-39 early before a 13-2 run put the Reddies ahead 56-41 before closing out the period on 4-for-4 shooting from behind the arc for a 67-52 lead going into the final 10 minutes. The Mustangs pulled within 80-70 in the final period, but the Reddies never faltered to hold on for the win.

The Reddies travel to Searcy to face the Harding Lady Bisons on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
