Schmitt wins high point for Seals at UALR

LITTLE ROCK — Hot Springs Family YMCA Seals swim team member Aubrey Schmitt won the team’s only high point award at the recent Valentine Invitational meet in Little Rock.

The meet was hosted by the Arkansas Dolphins swim team at the Donaghey Student Center Aquatic Center on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus. The event was sanctioned under USA Swimming through Arkansas Swimming.

Schmitt took first place in the division for girls ages 10 and younger in the 100- and 200-yard yard individual medleys and the 50-yard breaststroke and butterfly events. She placed second in the 50-yard freestyle and backstroke to along with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.

Lily Shields placed fifth in the same division in the 50-yard breaststroke. She placed seventh in the 50-yard backstroke and eighth in the 50-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley.

Lily Cook finished sixth in the 100-yard individual medley. She was also ninth in the 50-yard freestyle.

Emma Crowe won the 100-yard freestyle in the girls’ open division. She was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard medley, as well as the fourth-place finisher in the 50-yard freestyle. Claire Hudnell earned eighth place in the 500-yard freestyle.

Mason Vondenstein took first place in the 100-yard backstroke in the men’s open division. He was also the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley.

Luke Vondenstein competed in the division for boys ages 11-12 and won the 100-yard breaststroke. His next-best finish was fifth place in the 100-yard backstroke and he finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle.

Abi Steele earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in the division for girls ages 11-12. She was also fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.
