MPSD reaches out to assist family who lost home in fire

MOUNTAIN PINE -- The Mountain Pine School District is accepting donations to assist the family of two Mountain Pine students who lost their home and possessions in a fire earlier this week.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, two fire departments and 16 firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at 302 Ninth St. in Mountain Pine.

Despite best efforts, the family's home could not be saved. All eight members of the family escaped the house without injury. The fire reportedly began in the kitchen.

According to the school's resource officer, Garland County sheriff's Deputy Matthew Cogburn, the home housed three generations of family members and belonged to the grandparents of the Mountain Pine students.

In response to the tragedy, Cogburn posted a photo on social media and requested donations for the family affected by the fire.

Their needs are as follows: bedding, blankets, pots, pans, towels, toiletries, nonperishable food items, and coats for all; women's shirts sizes medium, large, extra-large, and extra-extra large; women's pants sizes 10/12, 16, and 20; women's shoes sizes 7.5, 8.5, 9, and 10; men's shirts sizes extra large; men's pants sizes 38/30 and 36/30; and men's shoes size 9.

Infant needs include diapers size 4, Pampers wipes only (due to an allergy), toys, stuffed animals, and infant clothing size 18 to 24 months.

Some donations have already been received, and the family has a place to stay for the time being.

Donations can be taken to the main office of Mountain Pine High School. For more information regarding donations, call the Mountain Pine High School at 501-767-1540.

Cogburn pre-emptively thanked all donees in his post, saying, "Thank you all for any help."
