Jazz Society to present 'Twin Guitars' June 21

The Hot Springs Jazz Society will presents "Twin Guitars," featuring Les Pack and Tommy Townsend, with vocalist Sharon Turrentine, Jake Noble on bass, and C.E. Askew on drums, from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at the Elks Lodge, 132 Abbott Lane.

"The lightning-fast fingerpicking guitarist Les Pack and Tommy Townsend will tantalize your ears with their amazing rendition of jazz music in a guitar duo," a news release said.

Pack, a professor of music, is "proud to introduce two former students-turned professional in this jazz band."

Turrentine will "lure you into her web with her sultry vocals and captivating stage presence. Sharon is a former New Orleans Mardi Gras Queen, as well as being the first Hot Springs Jazz Society Mardi Gras Queen," the release said.

The Elks Lodge welcomes all ticket holders to enjoy a fried catfish dinner for $12 from 5-6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for Elks and Jazz Society members, $15 nonmembers, or $5 students, who must show an ID. Tickets will be available at the door at 5 p.m.

The Hot Springs Jazz Society is a nonprofit, volunteer organization "dedicated to perpetuating, promoting and preserving Jazz Music, an original American art form." The Jazz Society is funded in part by the Arkansas Arts Council, Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission, Morris Foundation, The Hot Springs Community Foundation and Elisabeth Wagner Foundation along with numerous other corporate and private sponsors.
