Hot Springs Jazz Society hosts Flight Plan free concert

The Hot Springs Jazz Society, The Sentinel-Record and Visit Hot Springs have come together to present a free concert by the Air National Guard Band of the Southwest's dynamic "Little Big Band" known as Flight Plan.

The concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Horner Hall of the Hot Springs Convention Center, 134 Convention Blvd. Doors open at 2:15 p.m. for ticket holders and 2:45 p.m. for general seating.

This sleek, vibrant jazz ensemble presents exciting, uplifting music and inspires audiences to increased patriotism, a news release said.

Invited to perform with the band is local music student Matthew Shirey of Lake Hamilton High School. This 16-year-old saxophone player has been playing since he was 11 years old. His many accomplishments include four All Region Honor Band plaques, three Outstanding Musician awards and two Director's Choice awards.

The Hot Springs Jazz Society is a nonprofit, volunteer organization dedicated to perpetuating, promoting and preserving jazz music, an original American art form. The Jazz Society is funded in part by the Arkansas Arts Council, Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission, the Morris Foundation and the Elisabeth Wagner Foundation, along with numerous other corporate and private sponsors.
