BELLA VISTA -- James "Jim" Bradley Schran, 85, of Bella Vista, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was born July 3, 1933, in Hot Springs, Ark., and attended Hot Springs High School, where he met the girl he would later marry, Carol Moore. Before they married, Jim joined the Navy and was assigned to the Combat Information Center School at Treasure Island in San Francisco, Calif. After graduation, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Herbert Thomas, on which he served during the Korean War. Jim earned three battle stars and was credited with 21 months inside a war zone over three years.
Jim and Carol were married Dec. 18, 1954. Two years later, Carol gave birth to a daughter, Linda. With Carol's help and while working full-time, Jim attended University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with triple minors in economics, accounting and political science. Jim's professional career included hospital administration, sales management and video production.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Moore Schran; parents, Harold and Jessamine Schran; stepmother, Ruth Schran; and brother-in-law, John C. Hall. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Schran Chitwood, of Bella Vista; sister, Mrs. Patsy Hall, of Hot Springs; grandchildren, Nancy Carolyn Chitwood, of Bella Vista, and Courtney Schran Chitwood, of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Inurnment will take place in Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock.
