Umphers Construction Co. Inc., a family owned and operated business, will celebrate its 60th year in business in June.
Umphers Construction Co. Inc. is also a female-owned business, with Sara Umphers as owner. John and Sara Umphers incorporated the business in 1960.
Sara Umphers, Jane Smith, Judy Ellis, Randy Umphers, Christy Tyler, Rebecca Tyler, and Allan Stanley, many who have been with Umphers for 40 years, are involved in the day-to-day operation of the company.
Allan Stanley is also project manager, chief estimator, and in charge of overall operations in the field.
The company employs 25 to 30 ironworkers and five NCCCO certified crane operators -- Randy Umphers, Paul Arsenault, James Chaney, Trice Ellis, and Brian Smith, who keep the crane business "booming."
The highly skilled and very committed job superintendents include Gary McNiel, Brian Smith, Mark Smith, Allan Stanley, Trice Ellis, James Chaney, and also on top of things, foreman in training, James Vance.
"These guys really know the business and there is nothing that they cannot conquer as experts in the field of steel erection," a news release said.
"Our team is capable of any type of steel erection job with expertise and extensive knowledge of the trade. Most of them have worked for and been devoted to Umpco for 30- to 40-plus years," it said.
Some of the projects done in 2018-19 include numerous hotels local and in surrounding states, local schools, Hot Springs Junior Academy, Langston, Goza, Cutter Morning Star and Malvern schools, several banks, office buildings, safe rooms, Genesis Cancer Center, and a jail in Brinkley, among many others around the region.
"Umphers would like to thank all of the many general contractors that have entrusted us on these amazing projects. We have achieved a great status and much satisfaction because of them and our hard working staff and employees.
"We are all a family here at Umpco and very proud to be able to work together to achieve our goals in business," the release said.
