Vegetarian Supper Club starts new fall season

The Vegetarian Supper Club will start its new fall season at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the fellowship hall of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 401 Weston Road.

The meeting will feature a special video presentation by Ocean Robbins, the grandson of the co-founder of Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors Ice Cream, the "largest ice-cream company in the world," the club said in a news release.

In his presentation, "The Healthy Food Revolution," Robbins "relates the fascinating story of how his father and then himself turned their backs on a food industry that was contributing to a huge degree of illness in the American public. They have since dedicated their lives to gathering and sharing research about how to avoid and/or reverse the chronic diseases of our society, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and Alzheimer's," the release said.

"The presentation supports the research finding that the standard American diet of heavy meat, dairy and sugar is directly responsible for the premature deaths of more than 660,000 Americans every year, to say nothing of the suffering and cost of maintaining the typical chronic diseases that are costing the American taxpayer and the public millions of needless dollars. That is more American deaths than those from all the wars beginning with and including World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Every year," the release said.

Supper Club attendees will "learn ways to avoid and reverse this downward health trend and maintain strong health practices in their own lives."

The Supper Club meets on the second Monday evening each month, September through June, at the church. Each meeting provides a vegetarian supper, timely health information, and good fellowship. Attendees may bring a vegetarian dish of their choice with the recipe, and a self-addressed envelope to receive the recipe collection for the evening.

Everyone is welcome to attend, and admission is free. For more information, call 318-4624.
