Shackleford to speak at annual luncheon

Former Little Rock Mayor Lottie Shackleford will be the featured speaker at the WLC Luncheon on Oct. 10 from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. at National Park College's Student Commons.

Shackleford is vice chair emeritus and chair of the DNC Women's Caucus and has spent over 40 years in local, state and national politics, a news release said. She has been a delegate to every Democratic National Convention since 1980.

Shackelford has participated in political forums in Azerbaijan, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria, and observed elections and the electoral process in Romania, the Baltics, West Germany and Taiwan.

She is also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She was awarded the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Trailblazer Award in 1980, the Mary Church Terrell Award in 1998 and the Delta Legacy Award: Women Making a Difference.

She has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the board of directors of Philander Smith College, Southern Regional Council, National Conference on Christians and Jews, Little Rock Airport Commission, Urban League, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, The Links Inc. and the Southern Youth Leadership Development Institute.

Payment via PayPal is available at [email protected], or payment can be made at the door. Tickets are $30 each or $210 for a table of eight.

All proceeds from the luncheon will be used for grants to local schools. Since 2014, the WLC has awarded $26,600.
