County Republicans to host state candidates on Thursday

The Republican Party of Garland County will host Garland County's state House and Senate candidates during its monthly meeting on Thursday.

State Sen. Alan Clark and state Reps. Bruce Cozart, Richard McGrew, Les Warren and Marcus Richmond plan to seek reelection Nov. 3. They will discuss their campaigns and strategies, a news release said.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Family Center of the First Church of the Nazarene at 3804 Central Ave. The public is welcome to attend and admission is free.

Voter registration will be available before and after the meeting.

Clark, District 13, was elected to the Senate in 2012 and took office in 2013. He chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Senate Committee on City, County and Local Affairs. He also served on the Joint Performance Review Committee, the Senate Interim Committee on Children and Youth, the Joint Budget Committee and the Legislative Council.

"He is an advocate of reform of the child welfare system," the release said.

Clark is vice president and chief operating officer of Clark's Building and Decorating Center. He served on the Garland County Quorum Court from 1992 through 1996. He is a past member of the Garland County Planning Commission.

Cozart, who is serving his fourth term, represents District 24, which includes a portion of Garland County.

He chaired the House Education Committee and also serves on the Arkansas Legislative Council and the House State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Cozart, who owns Bruce Cozart Construction Inc., is a general contractor for commercial and residential buildings. He is a graduate of Lake Hamilton High School and he is a former member of the Lake Hamilton School Board, where he served as president.

"Rep. Cozart has been involved with several civic and youth organizations in his district, including Habitat for Humanity. He was elected president of the Arkansas Home Builders Association and was a past president of the Hot Springs Home Builders Association," the release said.

Warren is serving his second term in the House. He represents District 25, which includes a portion Hot Springs and a portion of Garland County.

Warren chaired the Joint Committee on Public Retirement and Social Security Programs. He also served on the House Revenue and Taxation Committee and the House State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Warren is the president of Hot Springs Title Company. He earned his master's degree from the University of Arkansas.

He previously served on the Lakeside School Board.

Richmond is serving his third term in the House. He represents District 21, which includes portions of Garland, Scott, Perry, Yell, Crawford, Sebastian, and Polk counties.

He served on the Joint Budget Committee, the Joint Performance Review Committee, the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, and the House City, County and Local Affairs Committee.

During the 90th General Assembly, he served as the 4th Caucus District assistant pro tempore.

Richmond earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Arkansas Tech University. He is the president/CEO of America's Pet Registry Inc.
