Local "library lovers" gathered at the Garland County Library in celebration of Library Lover's Day on Friday, an event that entailed the announcement of updated policies and new services.

Changes include a curbside pickup for items, automatic renewals for items with no wait, online fine/fee payment, one free interlibrary loan per month and a lowered age to get a library card.

The curbside pickup allows people to pick up their held items without leaving their vehicle.

"Once you've been notified that your item is available, simply pull into one of the designated curbside pickup spots and call the phone number on the sign. A staff member will bring your items to you," according to a library flyer.

For automatic renewals, items will be renewed automatically twice if no one is waiting on the item, the flyer states. Renewal notifications will be sent via email.

Fines and fees will now be payable online.

"With automatic renewals, we're hoping to reduce the amount of fines patrons accrue, but for convenience, we've enabled online bill pay," the flyer states. "Fine pay through our mobile app is coming soon."

People will now be able to have one free interlibrary loan request per month, with additional requests costing $5 each, it states.

Additionally, the age to get a library card has been lowered to 3 years old.

The library is located at 1427 Malvern Ave. For more information, call 501-623-4161.
