An original signed Randy Groden painting will be auctioned off during the Mardi Gras Costume Ball & Contest, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, at The Hotel Hot Springs & Spa.

The painting, donated by Jean Groden, is titled "Quiet Evening" and was created in 2008 in Maui, Hawaii.

"Randy Groden was one of the top artists in Hot Springs in the 1990s before becoming a world traveler while painting and improving his talent, making his mark in the world of art. He has painted in Santa Fe, Maui, Portugal, Venice, Rome, Sicily, Crete, Monaco, France, and Barcelona. Groden settled in Dallas, Texas, where his expressionist artwork sells for $25,000 and more," a news release said.

The evening will include dancing with the Dixieland group Spa City Stompers and the Delta Brass Express, a dance band that blends blues, classic rock and a bit of jazz.

Tickets are available at HSJazzSociety.org, by calling 501-627-2425 or by emailing [email protected]. Tables can be reserved for parties of 10 for $600 to receive preferred seating. Single tickets are $60 per person.

Proceeds from the Mardi Gras Costume Ball & Contest, the sole fundraiser of the Hot Springs Jazz Society, fund the society's scholarship program for high school music students, free concerts at the Garland County Library and keeps the annual outdoor concert, JazzFest Block Party, free and accessible to all.
