Porter leads Lakeside past J.A. Fair

LITTLE ROCK -- Chloe Porter put up 19 points to lead Lakeside in a 56-17 rout of J.A. Fair on the road Friday night.

Lakeside (22-4, 10-3 5A South) jumped out to an early 10-3 buffer before stretching out to a 35-8 lead over Fair (1-22, 0-13) at the break. The Lady Rams outscored the Lady War Eagles 16-8 in the third before holding them to 1 in the final frame.

Porter added six assists and four steals in the game, Mady Davenport had 9 points and four rebounds, Maddie Trusty put up 7 with four rebounds, Ayanna Thrower tallied 6 points and five rebounds and Erika Bittinger finished with 4 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

"Chloe was aggressive and played well," said Lakeside head coach Chris Brock. "I was happy with how our group played each trip on both ends."

The Lady Rams host Hot Springs (15-10, 9-4) for the regular season finale Tuesday.

Hot Springs' Jaylia Reed hit 6 of 8 from the free throw line as she single-handedly outscored Sheridan (12-11, 7-5) in a 48-16 rout Friday night at Trojan Fieldhouse.

The Lady Trojans jumped out to an early 16-4 lead and never relented, stretching to a 22-8 lead at intermission. Hot Springs outscored the Lady Yellowjackets 26-8 in the second half.

Reed led the Lady Trojans with 17 points, Jurnee Hicks added 11, and KaLariya McDaniel had 9, all from behind the arc.

Nighthawks softball

blanked in doubleheader

POTEAU, Okla. -- National Park could not get its bats going as Carl Albert State College cruised to a sweep of Friday's doubleheader.

The Nighthawks were limited to just one hit in 15 at-bats in the first game, a 12-0 loss. Sarah Todd collected the loss with 12 runs, 8 of them earned, allowed off 14 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Lucy Shelly earned the win for the Vikings with 1 hit allowed over 5 innings with 4 strikeouts.

NPC fared slightly better in the second game, with two hits in a 13-0 loss. Quashia Dickens earned the loss with 10 earned runs allowed off 6 hits and 5 walks in 2 1/3 innings while striking out one. Todd closed the game with 3 unearned runs off two hits while striking out 2.

Elisha Stilwell earned the win for the Vikings with 2 hits, a walk and a hit batter in five innings with 6 strikeouts. Trini'Tee Haney went yard for CASC in the second game.

NPC hosts Crowder College on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon.

Nighthawks baseball

drops doubleheader

STERLINGTON, La. -- NPC freshman Jesus Minjarez hit a home run over the left field wall as the third batter in the game, but that was the only time a Nighthawk crossed the plate as Hinds Community College won both games of Friday's doubleheader.

NPC garnered just four hits in the first game, an 11-1 loss. Matthew Herron (1-2), a sophomore from Mountain Pine, picked up the loss. Herron allowed 7 runs, 4 of them earned, off 4 hits and 3 walks while fanning 4 in 2 innings of work. Freshman Alfredo Juarez closed out the game with 4 runs allowed off 4 hits, 2 walks and a hit batsman while striking out 3.

Preston Johnson picked up the win for the Bulldogs with 1 earned run allowed off 3 hits and a hit batsman while fanning 11 in 5 innings of work. Pablo Lanzarote hit a 3-run shot over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the third inning.

HCC shut out the Nighthawks in the second game as three Bulldogs hit home runs in the 13-0 win. Caleb Sterling, Vantrel Reed and Lanzarote all hit home runs in the game.

Andy Roberts (0-2) picked up the loss with 5 unearned runs allowed off 2 hits and 3 walks before Jacob Weems came in to pick up the third out of the first inning. Weems went 1 2/3 innings, allowing 6 earned runs off 6 hits and a walk while striking out 2. Cade Jackson finished out the game with 2 runs allowed off 2 hits, 2 walks and a hit batter.

Harrison Haley erned the win for the Bulldogs with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk allowed over 2 2/3 innings.

The Nighthawks travel to Harrison to face the North Arkansas Pioneers with a doubleheader starting at noon.
