Siding with the facts

Dear editor:

Re: Troubling news.

Ms. Judy Ladd's letter published on Jan. 26 opined, "Sen. Tom Cotton and Sen. John Boozman have voted during the process of impeachment to side with the GOP rather than the people who voted them to office."

Republican Sen. John Boozman was first elected to the Senate in 2010 defeating then-incumbent Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln receiving 451,617 votes to her 288,156, or 57.9% to her 36.9%, a victory margin of 21 points. Sen. Boozman ran for reelection in 2016 against his Democratic opponent, Conner Eldridge Jr., winning the election with 661,984 votes to Mr. Eldridge's 400,602, or 59.8% to his Democratic opponent's 36.2% margin of 23.6 points.

Republican Sen. Tom Cotton in 2014 defeated then-incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor with 478,819 votes to Sen. Pryor's 334,174 votes, or 56.5% to 39.4%, a victory margin of 17.1. Sen. Cotton is seeking reelection this year and is unopposed by a Democratic candidate.

Based on the facts presented above, it is difficult to discern how Ms. Ladd can conclude the senators, elected and reelected to office by substantial margins by the people of Arkansas, are voting with the GOP and against the people who elected them.

During a speech on Aug. 13, 2019, in Iowa, the leading candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for president, former Vice President Joe Biden, stated, "We choose about truth, not facts."
