Bethge to present 'Signal Trees of Arkansas'

Teresa Bethge will present the program "Signal Trees of Arkansas" at the Nov. 5 meeting of the NSDAR John Percifull Chapter.

The business meeting will start at 11 a.m. at Comfort Suites on Nash Street. The program will begin at noon.

Bethge, a Pine Bluff native, graduated from Pine Bluff High School and attended State College of Arkansas (now the University of Central Arkansas), then graduated from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences School of Dental Hygiene in 1971. Her working career has taken her to three states, over almost 50 years. Working full or part-time, she still keeps active and fills in at times for the Haynes Family Dental Clinic in Hot Springs, a news release said.

Bethge became a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in October 1979. Following her mother in the organization, she climbed to the top of her chapter in Pine Bluff, serving two terms as the chapter regent (president). She served her district, Wataseka, as district treasurer, district director-elect and as district director.

She has served the Arkansas State Society as state chairman of various committees, Junior Membership, Liberty Love, World War II Memorial, and Protocol. She has served as State Protocol chairman for the last 32 years. She represented the Arkansas State Society at Continental Congress in 1984 as the Arkansas Outstanding Junior Member becoming a life member of the National Outstanding Junior Club. She has served as state librarian and state organizing secretary, and from 2004 to 2006 served as Arkansas state regent, representing the Arkansas State Society in decision making on the national level. Her travels took her to several states, speaking on the activities taking place in Arkansas.

As an honorary state regent, she serves on the Board of Consultants and the State Nominating Committee. On the national level, she has served in many national vice chairman positions, presently serving as national vice chairman of the Richard and Elizabeth Dean Scholarship, a $5,000 merit scholarship for high school seniors pursuing American studies. She continues her involvement on the national level with life membership in the national officers, state regents and national vice chairman clubs. She moved her membership to the John Percifull Chapter upon her move to Hot Springs.

In 2003 and 2004, she served as chairman of the Jefferson County American Cancer Relay for Life, raising over $150,000. She served on the board of a local nonprofit, Neighbor to Neighbor, in Pine Bluff for over six years, serving one year as president. The nonprofit helps feed the needy in Pine Bluff. In 2000, she was appointed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to a six-year term on the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame Board.

She and her husband, Ken, have two sons and three granddaughters. Her husband is employed as a closing agent and broker at Joe Wilson Real Estate Auctioneers.

While in Pine Bluff, Ken and Teri Bethge were active members of Grace Episcopal Church, and she served on the Vestry as junior warden. She was a member of the choir, the Episcopal Church Women, the Budget and Finance Committee, the Memorial Garden Committee, and the Building and Grounds Committee. Since their move to Hot Springs, they have become members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she sings in the choir. She is also a member of the Hot Springs Women's Welcome Club.
