A Hot Springs woman was facing felony battery charges Thursday after allegedly injuring her grandmother and step-grandfather during an altercation at the home they share.

Kristy Dawn Gibson, 36, of 201 Geronimo St., was taken into custody at the residence shortly before 1:30 p.m. and charged with two counts of second-degree domestic battery, each punishable by up to 10 years in prison because both victims are over 60 years old.

Gibson, who lists no prior criminal history, was being held on zero bond and was set to appear Friday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garland County sheriff's Deputy Chandler Overton was dispatched to the Geronimo Street residence regarding a disturbance in progress.

A woman, 74, told Overton she got into an argument with her granddaughter, identified as Gibson, which also involved her husband, 74, who is Gibson's step-grandfather.

Her husband told Overton that Gibson threw a pellet gun across the room, breaking the television, and in the process struck him on the elbow, causing a visible injury to his arm.

The woman stated Gibson attempted to take her phone away from her and during the struggle Gibson slapped her across the face and pulled her hair. Overton noted the woman had swelling and redness under her left eye from the blow.

A witness, 78, who was inside the home reportedly saw the altercation and confirmed Gibson slapped her grandmother.

Overton spoke to Gibson, who stated her grandmother had "raised her from a very young age." She said her grandmother has had legal guardianship of her since she was 8 and that she has been living "off and on" with her grandparents for the past 20 years.

Both victims later filed petitions with the court to obtain orders of protection against Gibson. In her petition, the grandmother noted Gibson had come into the house that morning "high on drugs" and during the altercation she was "screaming and yelling incoherently."

She noted both she and her husband have "mobility issues" and she is on oxygen. She states Gibson has threatened to "burn their house down" and she is in "fear for her life," noting the sheriff's office has had to respond to previous disturbances involving Gibson in the past.

A hearing on the couple's request for protection orders is set for April 27 in district court.
