The Col. John Washington Chapter was well represented at the annual Colonial Dames 17th Century state conference held recently in North Little Rock.

The chapter as well as individual members received several awards for their work in 2020 despite COVID-19 restrictions.

Five chapter awards were received: First Place Public Relations, Outstanding Chapter Award First Place Advancement of our Society, Outstanding Contribution to Veterans, Coat of Arms approval and National Defense, a news release said.

Eight individual awards were received by Pat McLemore, Outstanding Support of State Vice President; Mary Willmuth, Colonial History for School Children; Sally Johnson, Outstanding Support of Veterans; Peggy Vandenberg, Outstanding Support of Veterans; Sheila Beatty, Outstanding Programs through the Newsletter; Sheila Beatty, Outstanding Work as Public Relations Chairman; Judith Robbins, Construction of 210 Braille Flags and nonmember Sherri Koch for Construction of 210 Braille Flags.

Chapter President Judy Robbins said in the release that she was "thrilled" the chapter was acknowledged for its excellence and congratulated and thanked the individual members for their support of the society.

Chartered in 1961, the chapter has 50 members from the Arkadelphia, Mount Ida, Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village areas. It normally meets five times a year at the DeSoto Club in Hot Springs Village; however, COVID precautions necessitated the cancellation of some meetings and the establishment of virtual meetings.

In-person meetings are scheduled to resume.

For information regarding membership and the activities of CD17C, email Robbins at [email protected].

Women older than 18 are eligible for membership, provided she is eligible through the lineal descent of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the original colonies in the geographical area of the present United States of America.
