Altrusa International of Hot Springs Village, AR, Inc. held its monthly meeting at Trademark HSV Real Estate on Aug. 5.

"It's amazing what Altrusans can accomplish in an hour and a half meeting," a news release said.

Members donated money toward the purchase of hoodies, sweatshirts and coats for preschoolers at three local schools. Books for the Alternative Learning Education Centers and its Book Boxes at two shelters were collected at the meeting.

"We are donating school supplies for kindergarten and first-graders at Mountain Pine plus undies and socks for Head Start. Committee reports were made, the operating budget was approved, Fall fundraiser tickets were given to members and a report was given by Joan Schoonover on the International Convention she attended," the release said.

The meeting had three programs, the release said. "A tribute to Eyvonne Whipple" was presented by Joan Schoonover for her years of service to Altrusa as she prepares to move closer to family. Whipple received a signed collage of pictures from the membership.

Also, Joyce Field and Adrienne Cohen were initiated into Altrusa, led by Mary Kramer. And District Eight Liaison Sara Aiken from the Jonesboro Club shared District news.
