A local woman was arrested on a felony battery warrant Tuesday for allegedly throwing boiling water on her ex-boyfriend last week, causing serious injuries.

Paula Deshae Strickland, 25, who lists a Spring Street address, was taken into custody shortly before 2 p.m. at the Hot Springs Police Department and charged with second-degree domestic battery, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Strickland, who lists no prior felony history, was later released on a $15,000 bond and is set to appear July 8 in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 8, HSPD Officer Jason Green responded to National Park Medical Center, 1910 Malvern Ave., regarding a battery that had occurred earlier.

He made contact with a man, age not listed, who stated he was injured earlier by the mother of his daughter, identified as Strickland, after going to her apartment.

He said he had received a call from Strickland telling him he could come to see their daughter. While he was playing with his daughter in the apartment, Strickland reportedly said, "I got something for you."

She then went into the kitchen and when she returned she had a container filled with boiling water and threw it on him, he said, striking him in the upper body and right wrist.

He said he left the residence and got a ride to NPMC for treatment. Green noted the victim had burns on his upper right chest, upper left chest, the back upper side of both of his shoulders and on his right wrist.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was transferred from NPMC to the burn unit at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. A warrant was later issued for Strickland.
