A local man was arrested Friday on a felony warrant stemming from allegations he attacked his ex-girlfriend last month, putting a knife to her throat at one point.

Edgar Dave Thompson, 20, who lists a Spring Street address, was taken into custody shortly after 5:30 p.m. and charged with a felony count of aggravated assault on a family or household member, punishable by up to six years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of third-degree domestic battery and first-degree criminal mischief, each punishable by up to one year in jail.

According to court records, Thompson was convicted on Tuesday, Sept. 14, of residential burglary and was sentenced to five years' probation and 90 days in jail and was ordered to report to the jail by 5 p.m. Friday. When he arrived at the Garland County Detention Center Friday evening, he was served with the warrants on the new charges.

He was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court for arraignment on the new charges.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Aug. 21, shortly before 1:30 p.m., Hot Springs police responded to a residence in the 500 block of South Street regarding a battery that had just occurred.

Officers spoke to a woman who stated her ex-boyfriend, identified as Thompson, had been at her house earlier at her request. She said he was looking through her cellphone at one point and became agitated after discovering she had been "talking to other men."

She alleged he grabbed her by the throat and dragged her into the hallway, slamming her against the wall. He then threw her on the bed in her room, she said, but she was able to get up and go into another room while he stayed there in the bedroom.

She said she started hearing things breaking and "items being thrown around." When she tried to go back in the room, she saw Thompson was holding a knife and he told her, "I got something for you."

She alleges he put the knife to her throat and while she was finally able to push it away, she cut her finger in the process. She said she called her brother who came and took Thompson to his residence and then she called police.

The woman noted when she went into her bedroom she discovered it was "in disarray" with her television and bed frame destroyed. A warrant for Thompson's arrest was later issued but he was not able to be located at that time.
