A local man was arrested on a felony assault charge Sunday night after allegedly putting a gun to his girlfriend's head and threatening to kill her and himself.

Michael Wade Holland, 64, who lists an Overview Circle address, was taken into custody at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs shortly before 11:30 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Holland, who lists no prior criminal history, was initially held on zero bond but was released after making an initial appearance in Garland County District Court Monday afternoon.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, Garland County sheriff's Deputies Heidi Bernard and Tre'vonn Reedy were dispatched to Holland's residence on Overview Circle regarding a possible suicide threat.

Dispatchers advised that a man had pointed a gun at the female caller, 69, and told her he would kill himself if she "called the cops." Once at the scene, deputies spoke to the caller, who stated her boyfriend, identified as Holland, had been drinking.

She said he put a gun up to her head and threatened to kill her if she called police out to their home. She told deputies Holland had been keeping a Glock .40-caliber under his pillow and that he would probably use it if they went inside.

She lead the deputies to the room where Holland was located and they managed to talk Holland into giving the gun to his girlfriend. Once the weapon was removed from the room, deputies spoke to Holland and he reportedly admitted he "had a lot going wrong in his life" but he denied putting a gun to his girlfriend's head.

Holland was transported to CHI by LifeNet for evaluation and the gun was seized and taken into evidence. The girlfriend wrote out a statement of the incident and after his release from the hospital, Holland was taken into custody.
