A Little Rock man on parole was arrested on multiple felony charges involving a gun and drugs Saturday afternoon following a minor two-vehicle collision on Central Avenue downtown.

Markevin Duwayne Taylor, 29, who lists a Little Rock address, was taken into custody shortly after 1:30 p.m. and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of a controlled substance, meth, with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 10 years, possession of Xanax with purpose to deliver and possession of a firearm by certain persons, each punishable by up to six years, and a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license.

Taylor, who was also cited for no insurance, was being held on zero bond and is set to appear Aug. 11 in Garland County District Court. According to court records, he was convicted on Dec. 9, 2020, in Miller County of two counts of residential burglary and sentenced to 15 years in prison, with 10 years suspended, but later paroled.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Hot Springs Police Officer Nathan Thomas responded to the 200 block of Central Avenue regarding a property damage wreck involving two vehicles and made contact with both drivers who stated the brakes on one vehicle had failed, causing the collision.

The driver of the vehicle at fault, identified as Taylor, told Thomas he didn't have his driver's license on him. A computer check revealed his license was suspended and Taylor had a warrant for a probation violation out of Miller County.

Taylor was taken into custody and in searching him, Thomas allegedly found two baggies in his pocket, one containing 2.5 grams of what later tested positive for meth, and one containing two full bars and seven pieces of Xanax, about 1.6 grams.

In doing an inventory of his vehicle, other officers allegedly located a .22 LR 950 HNR revolver under the driver's seat. A computer check showed Taylor's previous felony conviction, prohibiting him from owning or possessing any firearms.
