Hot Springs Elks Lodge 380 recently awarded two "Certificates of Honor" for flying the American flag consistently and within proper protocol.

The certificates went to Hot Springs City Hall and Razorback Camper Sales, which were honored in presentations for "stimulating a feeling of pride and respect for patriotism" through their displays of the American flag, a news release said.

"Elks' Americanism Program has as its goal to 'quicken the spirit of American patriotism,'" the release said. Recognizing local organizations, sponsoring a patriotic essay contest for children annually, as well as providing the annual Flag Day Ceremony, "are among the ways Elks fulfill this goal."

This year's Flag Day Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the Lodge, 132 Abbott Place. The public is welcome to attend.

The ceremony is held on that day at all of the more than 2,000 Elks Lodges in the United States. This year's ceremony at Lodge 380 will include a patriotic address by state Sen. Alan Clark, a presentation of the history of the American flag, a parade of all American flags by the Emblem Club 194 Flag Team, patriotic music by Sharon Turrentine, and light refreshments.

Call Lodge 380 at 525-1020 or visit http://www.Elks.org for general information.
