Lady Rams display strength against Garland County rival

Huge student sections from rival Garland County schools saw Lakeside's Madi Belle Landry lead the Lady Rams past Lake Hamilton with 16 kills.

Lakeside took the first set 25-20 before Lake Hamilton responded with a 25-22 second-set victory. The Lady Rams closed the match 25-15, 25-16.

Lauren Latham followed Landry with 11 kills, and Aubrey Judd tallied 10 kills for Lakeside. Latham also added four assists to her total, equalling teammate Audrey Divers' four assists.

Divers and Landry led the team with 16 digs apiece, and Paige Woods notched 20 assists to Latham's 16. Judd added seven solo blocks and an assist.

Lakeside took a 2-1 win in the junior varsity game (25-20, 20-25, 15-12). Lake Hamilton won the seventh-grade match 2-1.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS HOST GOLF TOURNEY

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Knights of Columbus Councils from Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village hosted the 14th St. John's Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the scholarship fund at St. John's Catholic School.

Despite the extremely hot weather on the day, 128 golfers from around central Arkansas competed in the tournament.

The first flight was won by the team of Bill Patterson, George Byrnes, Russ Harrison and Jim Yarberry.

Mike, Steve, Nathan and Nick Webster won the second flight, while Jonathon Teel, Morgan McGough, Bill Sayles and Tony Scotty won the third flight.

The tournament also included mini games across the course. Bill Gentry, Ben Loftus, Tom Conrad and Jay Parsons won the closest to the pin competition. Mike Kerwin won the closest to the line drive contest.

JUNIOR LADY RAMS TRAVEL TO MENA

MENA -- The Lakeside junior high volleyball teams traveled to Mena and returned home with two wins from three matches.

Mena won the ninth grade match 2-0. Laynee Throgmartin led the ninth grade Rams with five kills, three digs, two blocks and nine assists. Baryett Janes tallied three kills, six digs and three aces. Kaydence Anderson contributed 15 digs, and Layla Lewis added seven.

Lakeside won the 8B match 25-17, 25-16. Ellie Vines registered four aces for the eighth grade Rams, and Caroline Maloone racked up 12 service points.

In the 8A match, Lakeside downed Mena 25-12, 25-11. Kylee Johnson led Lakeside with 15 service points, and Ruthie LaDuke notched six service points.

LADY COBRAS DOWN MALVERN

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- The Fountain Lake girls tennis team cruised past Malvern, winning five of six matches against the Lady Leopards.

Lainey Mungle (6-1), Aedan Kaumeyer (6-1), Mary Drakes (6-0) and Skylar Smedley (6-2) swept singles play for Fountain Lake.

Drakes and Paige Daivs picked up a 6-1 doubles win for Fountain Lake. However, Skylar Smedley and Bailey Sullivan suffered the only loss for the Lady Cobras at a 1-6 scoreline.

Fountain Lake's boys split their matches against Malvern. Paul Combs (4-6) and John Carter (1-6) lost in singles, but Alejandro Castells won 6-5 for the Cobras.

Andrew Bledsoe and Garrett White (6-1) earned a doubles win for Fountain Lake. George Drakes and Cannon McMullin were also able to win in doubles 6-4. However, Bo Baker and Jackson Akard fell 3-6 to Malvern.

MAUMELLE SWEEPS LAKE HAMILTON

GLENWOOD -- Maumelle bested Lake Hamilton by two strokes in both the boys and girls 9-hole matches at Glenwood Country Club.

The Maumelle boys finished with a team score of 175, just edging the Wolves who finished with a 177.

The Lady Hornets finished with a team score of 168, and Lake Hamilton ended at 170. Although Maumelle took home the overall win in the match, Lake Hamilton's Jordyn Garner won medalist honors with a round of 48. Garner was followed by teammates Kenley Kincannon (58) and Reagan Carrouth (64).

Maumelle's Chase Tucker finished as the medalist in the boys match with a score of 38.

Brode Horton and Zac Pennington led the Wolves, each shooting a round of 42. Jack Higginbotham (46), Ben Varner (47) and Colton Quebedeaux (48) followed for Lake Hamilton.

LIONS LOOK IMPRESSIVE AT DEGRAY GC

BISMARCK -- The Bismarck boys golf team cruised past Glen Rose and Haskell Harmony Grove Thursday.

Bismarck finished with a team score of 141, followed by Glen Rose (180) and Haskell Harmony Grove (182).

The Lions' Riley Tuttle (42) finished as the medalist, and teammate Wyatt Clement (49) finished as runner-up medalist. Noah Smith (50) and Nick Tucker (55) followed for Bismarck.

The Lady Lions downed Glen Rose 170 to 178. Bismarck's Ellie Norris tied for medalist honors with Glen Rose's Avery Fikes, both tallying a score of 50. Regan Parrie (58), Emma Chapman (62) and Addi Smith (68) rounded out the scoring for Bismarck.

GAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY SOCCER AWARDS

RUSSELLVILLE -- Northeastern State's Flynn Semmerling won offensive player of the week, and Southern Nazarene's Frederico Anzoletti and Michele Barletta won defender and goalkeeper of the week respectively.

Semmerling scored in each of the RiverHawks' games last weekend. He tallied the 11th game-winning goal of his career and moved up to fifth all-time in school history.

Anzoletti led the Southern Nazarene defense across an opening weekend where the Crimson Storm only allowed one goal in two matches.

Barletta made two saves in a 5-0 win against Southwest Baptist and preserved a draw against Dallas Baptist with nine saves.
