All nonprofits need to have funds to operate. In our case, we have a store (which is an ongoing fundraiser and an organized place for items to be given away) and a main building. Both buildings are owned free and clear.

Without support, we wouldn't have survived over 44 years. Thousands depend on our presence -- churches, schools, hospitals, agencies, local police, families -- the need never ends just as the reasons are many for help. When needs go up, donations tend to go down. That's where we are right now.

Our main focus is food. That requires dry storage, cold, and frozen storage. The food has to come from somewhere. It is either donated or it is purchased. Jackson House has buying power with many items costing 10 for a dollar. Rising prices hurt us, too, but we constantly look for deals and appreciate everything we can afford. Literally, tens of thousands of people depend on us each year to be sustainable and available for both groceries and lunches.

One in four individuals in our county depends on Jackson House for food more than twice a year. All walks of life depend on that fact. Other services/items are given when available, including well-known items such as Christmas toys and gas/bus passes for work. Over 500 volunteers provide the manpower to interview, sort, cook and distribute to the needy ... over 25,000 different people a year (some multiple times). Volunteers file, answer phones, unload trucks, pack toys ... it's an amazing process to work with the high numbers that are served with the items given to share.

Jackson House is here when you need us. Help us to survive difficult times so we can be there for you during your difficult times. Help us through fundraisers such as our "Over The Edge" premier rappelling event the 23rd and 24th! Donate at 705 Malvern Ave., or visit http://www.jacksonhouse.org. "Every item, every dollar, every person, counts."
