Melting Pot resumes monthly meetings

The Melting Pot will resume its regular monthly meetings at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28.

"This will be our first regular meeting following the winter recess," a news release said. The program will be presented by Phil "Pea Gee" Dickson.

Dickson, a lifelong resident of Garland County, is a graduate of Arkansas Tech and a local businessman. He also posts regularly and is a correspondent on the "History of Hot Springs" website.

Dickson will discuss his posts "and his methods/reasons for selecting those various historical, interesting and often amusing subjects and people."

The Melting Pot Genealogical Society is collecting annual dues of $25, which includes monthly newsletters and its annual publication, The Kettle.

The library and meetings are open to the public. The library has more than 10,000 publications, CDs, microfilm and fiche, and several public-use computers.

The library is located at 649-B Ouachita Ave. The hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday or by appointment by calling 501-624-0229.

"The library staff is an all-volunteer group of people interested in preserving and making available to the public the histories of families of Garland County and other areas," the release said.
