Garland County is a special place to live. We have such beauty surrounding us, people coming together to help each other, a vibrant arts community that enriches our minds and souls and wonderful health care facilities and personnel ready to serve.

Those who have gone before us have given us so much. We can repay the gifts from the past by doing the same for those who will follow us. Our challenge is even greater than theirs who came from a simpler time. Pressures on our environment and resources to support art, health, recreation, etc. are powerful and relentless. In this faster-paced day, we need to assess what we can do to assure that future generations will enjoy the privileges we have.

Individually, we can make a difference in this special place we call home. Regardless of our financial means, we need a will. Why? To make decisions as to what kind of legacy we want to leave. To provide help to those causes we have supported in our lifetimes. How do we want to be remembered?

Sad to say, less than half of the population, only 46%, have a will, and much less than that will leave anything to charitable organizations. Yet, there are inspiring examples of people who do leave a legacy. The community foundation donors have opened many funds to support their favorite charities including Ouachita Adult, Family and Children's Services, Jackson House, the Garland County Historical Society, The Caring Place, and others.

Think what would happen if one hundred additional donors left instructions in their will for the creation of a deferred fund to support their favorite charity. There would be over $1 million dollars allocated and when invested those earnings would truly be effective as grants were made and those dollars put back into our community.

We are your Foundation for Giving and can show you how you can leave your legacy. "Where there's a will, there's a way." If you have an interest in knowing more, please feel free to contact us at 501-372-1007, or email [email protected].
