A Hot Springs man who was reportedly shot in the leg by a woman in December at a residence on Bill House Trail was arrested Thursday morning on felony warrants stemming from guns and drugs allegedly found at the residence.

Gary Read Hughes, 39, who lists a Jetson Loop address, was arrested shortly after 6 a.m. on the warrants for simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of firearms by certain persons, maintaining a drug premises, possession of meth with purpose to deliver, possession of marijuana with purpose to deliver, and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hughes was being held on a zero bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to court records, Hughes was convicted in 2009 in Clark County of three counts of breaking or entering, and theft of property and was sentenced to three years' probation. He also had a felony drug charge out of Caddo Parish, La., from 2018. He has charges pending in Garland County from an arrest on Jan. 11, including felony counts of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia and a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana with a review hearing set for March 15.

According to the probable cause affidavit, at around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 20, Garland County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a report of a shooting at 160 Bill House Trail. They found a man, later identified as Hughes, with a gunshot wound to his upper right leg.

The deputies provided medical aid and LifeNet responded and eventually transported Hughes to a local hospital.

Tera Renee Hanley, 42, who listed the residence as her address, was at the scene and later charged with second-degree domestic battery in connection with the shooting of Hughes.

Sheriff's Investigator Charlie Mowery got consent to search the residence from Hanley and allegedly located two firearms inside a closet in the master bedroom along with numerous narcotics "in plain view." Officers backed out of the residence and investigators with the 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force were notified and obtained a search warrant.

The DTF members, after executing the search warrant, allegedly found a black magnetic box that held a torn yellow plastic sack containing suspected meth, and another sack with marijuana, on top of the mattress in the master bedroom. Under the bed, investigators reportedly found a digital scale.

Also located were the two long guns, a Ruger .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle and a 20-gauge single-shot shotgun.

Inside the top drawer of a nightstand, they allegedly found another sack with meth, two used glass meth pipes and a glass marijuana pipe and multiple prescription bottles in Hughes' name.

While Mowery was conducting the initial search, Hughes was allegedly yelling and wanting to know why the police were in "his" house and wanted the police out of "his" house. The video and audio of Hughes referring to the residence as being his was captured on body cameras.

Hughes was not arrested at the scene due to his injuries and having to be transported to a hospital. A computer check later showed Hughes to be a parolee with an active search waiver on file.

A total of 7.8 grams of what later tested positive for meth were located and 1.7 grams of marijuana.

In addition to the battery charge, Hanley was also charged with multiple felony charges dealing with the guns and drugs. She pleaded not guilty to the charges on Dec. 22 and was released on a $75,000 bond on Jan. 23 with a review hearing set for April 5 in district court.

Warrants for Hughes' arrest were later issued after further investigation and were served on Thursday.
