A Hot Springs Village man on probation from previous violent incidents was arrested Saturday night for allegedly hitting a woman with a baseball bat after crawling through the window of her residence.

Daniel Ray Byrd, 21, who lists a Cordoba Circle address in HSV, was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. and charged with a felony count of second-degree battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Byrd was being held on a $2,500 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to court records, Byrd was convicted on July 24, 2023, in Garland County Circuit Court of second-degree battery and aggravated assault and was sentenced to four years' supervised probation on each count, to run concurrently.

The assault charge stemmed from an incident on Aug. 18, 2022, where he attacked and tried to suffocate his girlfriend. The battery charge stemmed from an incident on Feb. 2, 2023, where he kicked a Hot Springs police officer in the groin who was trying to arrest him for trespassing.

According to the probable cause affidavit on Saturday's arrest, shortly after 8:30 p.m., HSPD Officer 1st Class Corey Montgomery responded to a residence in the 300 block of Vine Street regarding a battery that just occurred.

The victim told Montgomery that a known suspect, identified as Byrd, came into the house through a window. Once inside, Byrd reportedly asked the woman to leave the residence. The woman noted she lived in a room at the residence and was "having problems" with the female owner and they had been arguing earlier.

She states she and Byrd got into an argument about the situation and Byrd struck her with a gold baseball bat on her back and on the left side of her head. She said she left the residence and walked out to the street where she called police.

Montgomery noted the victim was "sitting on the side of the road" with blood on her shirt and "an open wound" to the left side of her head. Byrd was reportedly located a short time later in the area of Vine and Mound streets and taken into custody.
