Adam Brown races set Saturday

Saturday's Adam Brown Road Mile is the 29th series of road races formerly held on what is now Aldridge Road in western Garland County.

Some may refer to it still as the Owens Road Mile, although since 2010 the races have honored the memory of a U.S. Navy SEAL and Lake Hamilton High graduate who died in combat in Afghanistan. This is the fourth year the course runs in front of Lake Hamilton School on the former U.S. Highway 70.

Seven races, including a half-mile event for boys and girls 12 and under, are scheduled with race-day registration from 7 a.m.-8:30 a.m. at the east end of Adam Brown Road. Entry fee is $5.

An open division for males and females starts at 8 a.m., followed at 8:20 a.m. by ages 40 and up (masters). Senior-high students (grades 10-12) run next, boys at 8:40 a.m. and 9 a.m., followed by junior-high contestants (grades 7-9), boys at 9:20 a.m. and girls at 9:40 a.m. The children's race is scheduled at 10 a.m.

Awards go to the top five male and female finishers in each division. For more information, contact race director Karl Koonce at 501-282-3481.
