Forty fighters from the South are scheduled to compete Saturday as Off the Chain Mixed Martial Arts presents its fifth event, "August Apocalypse," in Summit Arena.
Starting at 7 p.m., the 20 fights include four professional matchups with a rematch between Dawond Pickney, of Hot Springs, and Jimmy Van Horn. Pickney defeated Van Horn earlier this year in a three-round technical knockout.
Other local fighters on the card include Chauncey Foxworth, Ryan McKnight, Torey Lemmons and Jessie Hancock. Tickets are available at the arena office or by calling 501-276-6575. All fights are sanctioned by the Arkansas Athletic Association.
Fight promoter Bobby Ray Edmonds will donate $10,000 to a local charity or non-profit organization during intermission.
Coast to Coast Baseball
to hold tryout at OBU
ARKADELPHIA -- Coast to Coast Baseball, based in Marietta, Ohio, will hold its annual tryout for central and southern Arkansas at 10 a.m. Aug. 10 at Ouachita Baptist. Tryout is for ages 14-18 and will evaluate players' skills in hitting, fielding, arm strength and speed.
Players accepted into the program will join college coaches and professional scouts at the $28 million Roger Dean Complex in Jupiter, Fla., for games and instruction. There will be instructional hitting camp to follow the tryout, with the goal to help players improve hitting fundamentals and mental approach at the plate.
