Yamuna Devi, Ayurvedic practitioner, is coming to Balance Yoga and Wellness April 26 and 27 for a weekend workshop on Ayurvedic Science. Devi has studied extensively in India and New Mexico and is a teacher at the OM Ayurvedic Institute in Miami, Fla.

Two workshops are scheduled for Saturday, April 26.

Introduction to Ayurveda will take place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This workshop introduces students to the 5,000-year-old tradition of Ayurveda including its aims and objectives, basic principles, concepts of health and disease, the science, history and philosophy.

Ayurveda and Nutrition is scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. This workshop is an in-depth approach to the Ayurvedic science of food and nutrition. Viewed as a "first line of defense" in supporting optimal health, Ayurveda believes diet is one of the best preventative tools, and, when applied sufficiently early on, the most effective means to ensure the avoidance of disease. Topics include classification of various types of food, their properties and characteristics, constitutionally appropriate vs. inappropriate diets, food compatibilities and incompatibilities, and the specific uses of foods in the treatment of disease.

Ayurveda for Self-Healing,is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 27. This workshop offers recommendations for creating healthy lifestyles, daily and seasonal routines, yogic cleansing practices and self-care. Students will learn how the natural daily cycles of the doshas in relationship to the seasons and time influence a persons's life.

Consultations will also be offered Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. but only four are available.

Persons may enroll for individual sessions or the full weekend. For complete details, cost information or to register, call Courtney Butler at 538-3036 or email her [email protected]
