Garland County sheriff's Deputy Charles Delahunt had responded to the victim's residence regarding the incident, but the suspect had left. Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, Delahunt states he was patrolling in the 200 block of Geronimo when he again met the neighbor who was a witness, who told him Hibbs was in the area again.

Delahunt looked around and finally found Hibbs hiding in the woods nearby and ordered him to come out. Hibbs reportedly complied and was taken into custody without incident.

The deputy noted Hibbs had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet. He also noted he was "emotionally upset" and was a possible threat to himself and others.
