Kehner, Rodgers share league honors

ARKADELPHIA -- Former Glen Rose standout Steven Kehner set personal records and Henderson State quarterback Kevin Rodgers broke a state record during the same week, so the Great American Conference honored both.

Kehner and Rodgers were named GAC co-offensive players of the week after leading rival schools Ouachita Baptist and Henderson to victories over the weekend. Kehner joins teammate Zack Mitchell as the league's defensive player of the week while Arkansas Tech freshman Michael Perry was named top specialist.

Kehner carried 38 times for 160 yards and four touchdowns during OBU's 41-20 victory over previously unbeaten East Central (Okla.), setting career highs in all three stats. His rushing attempts were the third-highest total in league history.

Before a national audience on CBS Sports Network, Rodgers passes for 382 yards and two touchdowns in a 60-17 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State. The two scores gave him 100 for his career, but the yards gave him 11,035, passing former Arkansas State standout Ryan Aplin for most in state collegiate history.

Vilonia graduate Mitchell intercepted three passes, helping OBU collect five interceptions for the game. Pottsville product Perry opened the second half of a 34-14 victory over Southern Nazarene with a 94-yard kick return for a touchdown.

OBU travels to Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday for its first road game while Henderson travels to East Central.

Pair of Red Wolves

earn Sun Belt awards

JONESBORO -- Off Saturday night's thrilling 21-14 overtime victory over Utah State, Arkansas State earned a pair of weekly Sun Belt Conference honors, with senior linebacker Qushaun Lee named defensive player of the week and senior defensive back Artez Brown special teams player of the week.

Brown saved the game for the Red Wolves (2-2), making up for losing a fumble near midfield inside the final minute. He blocked a 38-yard field-goal attempt as time expired, sending the game into overtime.

Lee, the team's undisputed defensive leader, recorded a season-high 13 tackles, including 1 1/2 tackles for lossses, a sack and a pass break-up. He recorded double-digit tackles for the 11th time of his career.

The Red Wolves are off until hosting Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 4.
