Work of Hot Springs artist included on museum tour

The artwork of internationally collected fine artist and Hot Springs resident Daniel Mark Cassity will be on exhibit with the International Guild of Realism's Masterworks Museum Tour, set to open in Shreveport, La., at R.W. Norton Museum on May 19.

The exhibition will contain 70 artworks by 65 IGOR members from around the world, including Cassity's playful oil on panel, "Keys to the Kingdom."

The artist grew up in Louisiana, graduating from Louisiana Tech in 1988, then spending 20 years in North Carolina after attending postgraduate studies at East Carolina University. He began concentrating on still lifes around 2006 and continues to receive ever-increasing national and international attention.

A few mentionables from his resume are his selections as a finalist in The Artist's Magazine's Annual Art Competitions from 2010-14, including a Competition Spotlight feature in the July/August issue of 2011; exhibition in the Oil Painters of America's National, Salon Show, and Eastern Regional exhibitions of 2013; selection as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center's International Salon of 2012/2013; selection as a finalist in Southwest Art Magazine's Artistic Excellence Competition of 2013; and participation in IGOR's eighth annual Juried Exhibition of 2013.

In 2014, Cassity exhibited in the national museum exhibition "American Still Lifes." He has also been featured in such publications as Southwest Art Magazine as an Artist to Watch, been promoted in American Art Collector, and had a full feature article in The Artist's Magazine titled "The Kingdom of the Origami Dragon Guy," published in the November 2014 issue.

Cassity said he is happy to have this opportunity to show at Shreveport's museum and is honored to participate in the Masterworks Museum Tour. Additionally, he said he was pleased to learn R.W. Norton Museum purchased "Keys to the Kingdom" for its permanent collection.
