Beginning today and running through Saturday, Lakeside High School's choral and drama departments will present the Broadway hit "The Drowsy Chaperone." Showtimes are 7 p.m. for each performance.

This extremely comedic story is a spoof of old musicals and a show within a show. The narrator tells about his favorite musical from the 1920s and that play comes to life inside his apartment. Plenty of antics and zany humor occur as the audience prepares to witness the wedding of starlet Janet Van De Graaf, who is leaving show business to marry her fiance, Robert Martin. All the while, producer Mr. Feldzeig works to stop the wedding, because his biggest investor has sent two gangsters, disguised as pastry chefs, to ensure the wedding doesn't happen ... or else.

Student actors include Clint Smedley as the narrator, Kate Webb as Janet Van De Graaf, and Maggie Trieschmann as the chaperone. Other actors will be Brock Johnson, Judson Spellings, Jordan Roberts, Gerald Thomas, Tyler Monroe, Devin Bobosky, Ashley Eye, Grace McClanahan, Scarlett Gooch, Emily Conly, Courtney DeVane, Lili Hanke and Emily Conly.

The show features 1920s jazz style music and a night full of laughter.

The performance is recommended for middle school students and older. Tickets are $8 at the door. Advance tickets for $6 are available through the high school welcome center, 2871 Malvern Ave.
