Carter's shining legacy

Dear editor:

How typical of former President Jimmy Carter to face his illness with honesty and grace, and keeping on with Sunday school. He is such an inspiration to everyone, in spite of religion or politics.

He is truly a peacemaker. Some interpret being a peacemaker as being weak. I disagree with that assessment. Even when he is criticizing someone, he does it in a constructive, kind manner.

I attended his inauguration and that has been a high point in my life. I have kept every photo from his inauguration. He has been an ambassador of peace and eliminating disease all over the world. What a legacy to leave behind; winning a Nobel Prize.

President Carter and the late President Jerry Ford formed an unusual friendship, in spite of being rivals for the presidency. Presidents Bush and Clinton have formed a close friendship, in spite of being in different parties. Some things should go beyond politics.

President Carter has written numerous books, I think I have most of them. Whatever the future holds as far as his health is concerned, I am sure he will face it with his usual courage, along with his devoted wife, Roslyn. They both prove that the retirement years can be the most rewarding.

May God continue to bless them and the Carter Center.

In the name of peace everywhere,

Hazel Wright
