For the third consecutive year, Garvan Woodland Gardens will host the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra for an afternoon of majestic music in beautiful Anthony Chapel.

This year's concert will begin at 3 p.m. March 22, and is the inaugural event sponsored by the Valerie Klipsch Endowed Arts Fund.

The ASO Chamber Orchestra will delight guests with a Mozart/Tchaikovsky festival, conducted by Geoffery Robson. Following the concert, there will be a meet-and-greet reception with members of the orchestra.

Klipsch

A retired concert pianist, Klipsch will be recognized during the concert.

A native of Vienna, Austria, she studied at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts there, and later at the Elizabeth Conservatory in London. She began her teaching career at a girl's school in Bristol, England. While in England, she married her first husband and had a son. In 1946, her husband was transferred to the Army-Navy Hospital in Hot Springs. She and their young son came here at that time.

After her husband succumbed to his injuries, Klipsch taught music in Hot Springs and at Ouachita Baptist University, then came to the Hope Public Schools where she taught chorale, music and foreign languages. She continues to reside in Hope.

During a Little Rock Chamber Orchestra concert sponsored by the Music Club of Hope in 1976, she met fellow music lover, philanthropist and local businessman Paul Klipsch. He is globally renowned as a pioneer in high fidelity audio and the inventor and manufacturer of the Klipschorn and other world-class speakers. The two shared many interests and they were married later that year. They traveled and worked together, enjoying great cities and great art as she "showed him the world" until his death in 2002.

She dedicated the Paul W. Klipsch Amphitheater at the Gardens in his memory during 2004. She has continued to support the arts through sponsorship of concerts by various local and international artists there, in Anthony Chapel, and other organizations throughout southwest Arkansas.

Tickets are $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers. The cost includes reception admittance. Tickets will be mailed and must be presented for entry.
