A local man was arrested Tuesday after a deputy found him allegedly intoxicated during a traffic stop.

Michael Stell, 32, who listed a 108 Elysian Hills address, was charged with driving while intoxicated and carrying certain prohibited weapons, misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Garland County sheriff's Deputy John Schroeder stated he had clocked out for the night in his vehicle at Northshore Drive when he observed a vehicle coming down the road from Marion Anderson Road. The driver stopped in the road, turned his lights off in front of a residence and exited the car to walk into the residence yard. Schroeder observed the driver return to his vehicle and drive his direction.

After pulling up near Schroeder's vehicle the driver again turned his lights off and parked in the road. At that time, Schroeder attempted to make contact with the driver, who sped away to Southshore Drive. Schroeder gave chase and after being unable to locate the vehicle, pulled back to Northshore Drive. The subject then turned back onto Northshore and was driving in the middle of the road down to the intersection at Marion Anderson Road, where Schroeder initiated a traffic stop.

When Schroeder came in contact with the driver, identified as Stell, he noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery and his speech was slurred. Schroeder asked if Stell had anything to drink that night and he responded, "Jäger." Schroeder asked Stell to step out of the vehicle for a field sobriety test and stated the subject stumbled as he stepped out. Stell failed the tests and was placed into custody.

Stell was transported to the Garland County Detention Center and after a 20-minute observation period registered 0.115 on a breathalyzer. A Jimenez Arms .380-caliber weapon was also located in Stell's belongings.

• A 45-year-old local man was arrested Monday night and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
